  • Book and a Movie/“The Hate U Give”
    Event date: February 17, 2020
    Event Time:07:00 PM - 09:00 PM
    Location:
    1118 Washington Street
    Manitowoc, WI 54220
    Description:
Tragically, it’s a story that you could hear on any nightly newscast. A young person of color is murdered by a police officer after the officer mistakes an object—a cell phone, a hair brush, a wallet—for a gun and discharges their weapon to protect themselves from perceived danger, killing a non-combative individual in the process. But, what happens if there’s a witness? What happens to their life after the tragedy? That’s the central issue in “The Hate u Give,” the American dramatic film based on the Young Adult novel by Angie Thomas of the same name. One huge question remains—which version does a better job of putting this tragic tale before the public: the book or the movie? You’ll can discuss this oft-debated point if you attend Manitowoc Public Library’s “Book and a Movie” at Lakeshore Cinema on February 17 at 7 PM. Watch the movie and then participate in the discussion of the book versus the movie. Books can be checked out prior to the screening at Manitowoc Public Library.
